BIRDING NEWFOUNDLAND POLICIES AND CONDITIONS
Private guiding is completely customized to your needs. Payment for the entire duration of your stay is required on the morning of your first day, e.g. you have booked three days guiding, you be expected to pay for the three day by the morning of the first day. We accept CAN or US funds, by cheque, cash or email money transfer at this time. We will be adding payment by credit in the very near future. See GUIDING SERVICES for further details.
Our tours and workshops are developed by birders for birders. There are other elements of natural history included in many tours. Time can, and will often be taken to note interesting scenery, insects mammals etc. We want our tours to be as customized as possible, so there is always a group discussion prior to each tour to discuss everyones primary and alternate interests. Birds and birding, is our specialty and our passion, but we will of course make time for other things, if the group wants.
The Pace of Our Tours
Our tours are generally conducted at a leisurely pace with no extensive hiking or long, walks over difficult terrain. When anything more than an easy walk is included we will always note that. Most trips will require pre-dawn starts and breakfast of often eaten in the vehicle, or a quick breakfast at the hotel, cottage etc. One some tours, there is a pre-breakfast outing, followed by a late breakfast. All of these things are discussed with each participant prior to the tour beginning. If you have a medical condition that limits your movement or affects your eating schedule etc, please let us know when booking the tour. For our St.John's based tours there is ample opportunity to take advantage of evening nightlife if one wishes. However, just be ready for an early start the following day. If you wish to avail of St.John's nightlife during your trip, please make us aware when booking and we can discuss the possibilities. We will often take time to review the days birding after dinner each evening and plan the following days activities. Lunches are often picnics and are not included on any of our tours. However, we can assist you with this, just let us know when booking! All activities are optional within the general framework of the tour. We encourage and assist participants in the pursuit of personal aims if these do not conflict with the conduct of the tour. Persons with specific non-ornithological goals should contact Birding Newfoundland before the tour to determine whether they can be realized.
What the Tour Price Includes
The price for tours includes all travel as noted in the itinerary, lodging in comfortable hotels/motels or their equivalent when indicated, evening meals unless otherwise noted (alcoholic drinks are not included), tour materials, and the services of the leader(s). Routine tips for included meals, porters, drivers, and other service providers are also included. Gratuities for Birding Newfoundland leaders are at your discretion.
The Single Occupancy Supplement listed for each tour provides a single room throughout the tour unless otherwise noted. Certain small lodges will not provide single rooms if they are heavily booked; these are listed in the “Notes” section of their respective tour itinerary. In such cases, the portion of the Single Occupancy Supplement applicable to the lodge or lodges will be refunded.
Unless a single room is specifically requested on your reservation form, all registrants will be assigned a suitable roommate. If no roommate is available, a single room will be provided and you will be charged the Single Occupancy Supplement.
Baggage handling assistance is provided by our hotels or by the leader(s) unless otherwise noted.
The following items are not included in the tour price: passports, visas, departure taxes, immunizations, excess baggage charges, optional excursions, telephone calls, flights/transportation to/from the tour destination, laundry, room service, snacks, or anything of a purely personal nature. Reservations, Deposits, and Payments
Reservations for tours require a deposit of 20% of the tour cost per person, of which $150 is non-refundable upon receipt. Certain tours may have higher deposit requirements; participants will be notified of those deposit amounts when they register. If the tour is not yet priced, the deposit amount is a flat $350. After the tour is priced and if 20% of the tour price exceeds $350, Birding Newfoundland may send a supplemental invoice for the difference.
Reservations with deposits are accepted in order of their receipt. Reservations are made using the contact us form linked in the tour page or at the top of each page.
Invoices for the balance of the tour price will be emailed about 12 weeks (98 days) before the departure date. Payment is due on receipt of our invoice.
Payment can be made in CAN or US dollars by check, or bank transfer. For some tours and workshops cash is also an acceptable means of payment. Please contact us if you have questions about payment options.
Refunds for tours are made according to the following schedule:
If cancellation is made 16 weeks prior to the tour start date the deposit – less the non-refundable amount of $150 –will be returned.
f cancellation is made 8 weeks prior to the tour start date 50% of the deposit – less the non-refundable amount of $150 –will be returned.
Any cancellations made within 8 weeks of a tour start date are not refundable.
Required deposits/payments for workshops are not refundable, BUT Birding Newfoundland will allow you to reschedule for another date for that or another workshop.
Payments for tutoring sessions are not refundable, BUT Birding Newfoundland will allow you to reschedule for a more suitable time or date.
